Rong-Jie Wang obtained his MSc (Eng) degree from the University of Cape Town in June 1998 and PhD (Eng) degree from the Stellenbosch University in April 2003. He held several research posts at Stellenbosch University from 2003 to 2009 on a part-time basis, first as a post-doctoral research fellow, then a researcher and a chief researcher. In 2010, he was appointed as a senior lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the same university, where he was promoted to associate professor in 2014 and became a full professor in 2020. In addition, he has over 7 years industry working and consulting experience.

His research interests include special electrical machines, computer-aided design and optimisation of electrical machines, computational electromagnetics, cooling design and analysis, electric traction and renewable energy systems.

Prof. Wang is a Senior Member of IEEE, an NRF rated researcher, a registered Professional Engineer with ECSA and Editorial Board Member of several professional Journals. He co-authored the book "Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Brushless Machines", (Springer 2004, 2nd Edition 2008, co-authors: J.F. Gieras and M.J. Kamper).
