Rong-Jie Wang earned his MSc (Eng) degree from the University of Cape Town in June 1998 and his PhD (Eng) degree from Stellenbosch University in April 2003. From 2003 to 2009, he held various research positions at Stellenbosch University on a part-time basis, initially as a post-doctoral research fellow, then as a researcher, and later as a chief researcher. In 2010, he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the same university as a senior lecturer. He was promoted to associate professor in 2014 and attained the rank of full professor in 2020. Additionally, he has over seven years of industry experience in working and consulting.
His research interests include special electrical machines, computer-aided design and optimisation of electrical machines, computational electromagnetics, cooling design and analysis, electric traction and renewable energy systems.
Prof. Wang is a Senior Member of IEEE, an NRF-rated researcher, and a registered professional engineer with ECSA. Additionally, he serves as an editorial board member for several professional journals and a technical committee member for several international conferences. He co-authored the book "Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Brushless Machines", (Springer, 2004; 2nd Edition, 2008) with J.F. Gieras and M.J. Kamper. This book is widely recognized as a pioneering and respected technical resource on axial flux permanent magnet machines.
