Evan has recently obtained his PhD from Stellenbosch University, South Africa, where he is currently doing post-doctoral research for the South African SKA project. He has been a member of the computational electromagnetics group (CEMAGG) at the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department since 2006.

His research interests include modelling techniques such as the finite element method and the method of moments (boundary element method). Most recently he has been investigating the use of GPUs, programmed using NVIDIA CUDA, as accelerators in these methods. He specifically considered the acceleration of FEM cutoff and dispersion analysis and the solution of scattering problems using the MOM. In the case of the MOM implementations, he has had much success with the use of techniques that overcome the limitations imposed by the amount of memory available on a GPU.
